I was looking through my emails from John Luther and found this DIA video [x]. I really like it! The drawings are sweet and simple. The part where one character looks to the other end of the room and the animation zooms over is something I really need to learn to do.

mint oreo truffles

So I tried making this today and I learned one of two things.
(1) I am either really horrible at eyeballing measurements or
(2) I am just not meant to make pastries PERIOD.

Mint Oreo Truffles

1 pkg. Double Stuf Oreos – Cool Mint Flavor – (1 lb. , 1 oz. pkg.)
• use 22 cookies with cream centers included
• use 10 cookies with cream centers discarded
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, room temperature
chocolate bark or candy coating*

Finely crush the cookies in a food processor or a ziploc bag with a rolling pin.
Stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together completely.
Roll the mixture into 1″ balls and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet.
Place covered in freezer or refrigerator for a few minutes to help retain shape when dipping in melted chocolate.
Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate, tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry.
Refrigerate and enjoy!

*Or, go green:

white chocolate bark/candy coating for dipping
green candy melts for dipping

Make your green and/or white shamrocks first (see picture below). You can use a ziploc bag with a small corner cut off or a decorating bag with with a small round tip attached to make the shamrocks. Use a toothpick to direct chocolate into desired shamrock shape. (Of course, in hindsight, this would have been a lot easier if I had found some little shamrock sprinkles.) Let dry.
Then, dip half the truffles in white chocolate and the other half in green.
If necessary, dip them again for a smooth finish. I found it necessary, especially for the white ones.
Then, on the second dipping, while still wet, press your cooled shamrocks gently on the top of your truffles.
For another effect, you can take the ziploc bag of chocolate and drizzle across each truffle with the alternating color.

red velvet cake balls

Red Velvet Cake Balls
1 box red velvet cake mix (cook as directed on box for 13 X 9 cake)
1 can cream cheese frosting (16 oz.)
1 package chocolate bark (regular or white chocolate)
wax paper

1. After cake is cooked and cooled completely, crumble into large bowl.
2. Mix thoroughly with 1 can cream cheese frosting. (It may be easier to use fingers to mix together, but be warned it will get messy.)
3. Roll mixture into quarter size balls and lay on cookie sheet. (Should make 45-50. You can get even more if you use a mini ice cream scooper, but I like to hand roll them.)
4. Chill for several hours. (You can speed this up by putting in the freezer.)
5. Melt chocolate in microwave per directions on package.
6. Roll balls in chocolate and lay on wax paper until firm. (Use a spoon to dip and roll in chocolate and then tap off extra.)

FIRST interview

So today I had my FIRST interview, or rather I should say, my first REAL interview! I applied for this job back in November but because they’ve been so busy, they had no time to interview so they just started looking at applicants. I find out the results in two weeks which feels like a billion years already. I’m really scared but SUPER excited if I get it. Even though I’m not planning for it to be a job after graduation, it’s still a job during the school year and it’s SCIENTIFIC ILLUSTRATION! I was SOOO excited when I saw the work done by previous illustrators/graphic designers and I just couldn’t stop smiling. Sad thing is that although I’m very qualified, I’m a graduating senior so they might not hire me so all I can say is: PLEASE HIRE ME!

Days of stressing over printing out my portfolio… was so worth it.
